HOW WE BEGAN

RackStarz was born and bred from a lifetime in the wilds of Colorado and California, between two brothers with a passion for action and adventure.

From the age of three, both brothers were strapped into skis and learned to properly bomb the snowy faces of the Rocky Mountains in their native Colorado. Nick and John grew up in those mountains, constantly camping, skiing/snowboarding, and mountain biking. Their childhood was spent exploring one adventure to the next, in a family with limited funds but unlimited affinity for the great outdoors.

Even before he graduated high school, John bought his first roof rack at a local used sports equipment store, installing it himself at his childhood home. After spending years in ski and bike shops, both brothers entered the American retail rack industry in its infancy, when rack and hitch left the dusty corners of ski shop basements and bike shop closets, and into dedicated spaces. Over nearly twenty years, both Nick and John worked, managed, and owned specialty rack and hitch shops across Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley, Denver, Boston, and Portland. Between them, they gained over thirty-five years of combined experience and deep relationships across the entire industry, with a reputation for quality work, customer service, engaging their local communities, and working with integrity.

With an eye on the future of the rack industry, Nick ventured home to Colorado to build a new space with a focus on overlanding and a deeper product offering to fit every adventure and vehicle. Within a single year, RackStarz opened in the outdoors meccas of Colorado Springs and Boulder, Colorado. Just over a year after launch, John brought RackStarz to Manhattan Beach, California. In 2021, The Brother’s decided to open up a shop in their hometown of Denver, Colorado and most recently in North County San Diego’s beach community of Oceanside, California.

With a rare breadth of industry experience and product knowledge, Nick and John have created a unique space for any customer looking to rescue their backseat, carry bigger and badder equipment, and connect them to new frontiers. The Bullion brothers found their adventure and now they’re in the business of connecting you to yours. Adventure starts here.
